LandSec have set the industry standard with the launch of one of the most sustainable retail centres ever built, the Westgate. The centre, which opened its doors to the public in October, is home to a host of global brands, delivering an inclusive and forward-thinking shopping experience. The array of shops, exceptional restaurants, arresting rooftop bars and a boutique, 5 screen cinema, are all housed under this progressive and sophisticated architecture, adding vibrancy and atmosphere to historic Oxford.
The City of Oxford is famous for its stunning medieval architecture, stylish restaurants, comforting coffee shops, and trendy student culture. This innovative retail project embraces local city living, rejuvenating the city’s social hub and filling a long overdue gap in the retail market. Up and running in time for Christmas, the shopping mecca is already championing the reknowned global brands it represents, bringing a well-rounded and unique shopping experience to the public.
When it came to the communications strategy adopted by Industry leaders LandSec, digital signage specialists onemedia were enlisted to implement a comprehensive solution, guaranteed to be informative to the public and add value to visitor experience. Using the trusted ONELAN signage platform (1 CMS AND 5 HD10 SUBSCRIBERS), Onemedia worked closely with LandSec to deliver engaging and dynamic digital signage content which is clear, effective in its purpose, on brand and in line with company values.
A core value which has underpinned the development plans from conception is the importance of social and environmental responsibility. Landsec worked closely with the local council to consciously negate any increased traffic brought to the city from this new venture. The execution of Digital Signage throughout Westgate has been formulated to interlink with these ideals. Impressive 65-inch kiosk screens have been installed on the outside of the centre walls (Installed by trusted AV integrator ‘Espirit’). These screens clearly display upcoming live bus departures, assisting visitors and encouraging use of Oxford’s Park and Ride travel service, thus helping to reduce city centre emissions.
The screens in the management office (Installed by trusted AV integrator ‘Viju’) also display the live bus departure boards and mirror Westgate‘s very own advertising campaigns which are played out on the outdoor public kiosks. As a result, the marketing team can monitor the content, preview current campaigns and therefore spot any issues instantly.
Another feature introduced by onemedia is weather sensitive notifications which are triggered as and when the temperature drops or rises beyond a certain point or heavy rain is forecast. For instance, during extremely cold weather visitors will be encouraged to take extra care and wrap up warm. Alternatively, on warm or very wet days, visitors will be encouraged to hydrate/ offered free umbrellas to keep dry. This configuration not only keeps the content relevant and fresh, it also minimises content management, eradicating the risk for human error.
Overall, the communications employed at Westgate look impressive and reflect the progressive ideals surrounding this influential retail project. Onemedia continue to work closely with LandSec, operating through a support agreement to ensure the smooth running of all digital signage. It is this full service which gives the end user confidence in their system, eradicating concern and freeing up internal resources.
